The Maniototo Early Settlers’ Association Committee lias made its arrangements for Easter Monday picnic, and, given Gne weather, should enjoy a successful gathering. Six gold medals arc offered in the sports events, four for running events, one for the hop step, and jump, and another for the high jump. The sports aro to be followed by a concert m the 'town flail in the evening. The county chairman has received the following letter from the tiovcrnor-Oencra! relative to his recent visit to Maniototo “Dear Mr Ramsay,—l cannot leave Maniototo Countv without writing you a word of thanks for all your kindness to me during my two days’ visit to our d’ tnet. It”has been a most enjoyable time, and 1 take away with mo the most pleasant memories. It has been the greatest nosrible pleasure to see so much of the country nnd to meet so many of its people, and I shall never forget the universal kindness and consideration shown to me by one nnd ail. The arrangements were perfect, and I realise how much trouble was taken to make them so. Municipal affairs in Xaseny have raised a little more interest this year, and for once there will be an election. Two candidate* havo been nominated for the mayoralty, Mr T. C. llore (the retiring Mayor who {* seeking re-election), and Mr F.' Lie., J (tho county clerk). There aro also coven candidates for tho council of

six members, A contest will at least stimulate interest in local affairs.

Four delegates from Loyal Naseby Lodge —Messrs D. W. Indor, N.G., G.B. Bro. Jopson, V.G. Bro. Lloyd, and P.S. Bro. Newman —will represent the lodge at the District Conference at Cromwell on Saturday next. Loyal United Brothers’ Lodge, Cambrians, will also bo represented by G.M. Bro. Rutherford and P.S. Bro. E. Morgan. There was a special church service at St. George’s, Naseby, on Good Friday evening, and another will be held on Easter Sunday evening, whilst Easter services will also be held on Sunday morning at Oturehua, Ranfurly, Waipiata, and Naseby. On Sunday _ week, a harvest thanksgiving service will be hold at St. George’s, Naseby, in the evening. Mr W, Wade, who has been acting postmaster for some months, has been transferred to Balclutha. He left Naseby on Monday. Mr H. Smith has been appointed acting postmaster in his place. Mr M. O’Brien, who has been on sick leave for some considerable time, is making good progress, and hopes to be able to resume duty in a few weeks’ time.
