IMPORTANT CAPTURE
RUM-RUNNER SEIZED AT SEA. VALUABLE LIQUOR CARGO. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) NEW YORK, March 1. A steamer named the Fedoralship, the largest rum-runner in the Pacific, was seized 300 miles off the Golden Gate after offering resistance to the American revenue cutter Cahokia. The Federalship, with a liquor cargo woth £300,000, left Vancouver 10 days ago. The Cahokia trailed her southward, and obtained definite evidence that she intended to discharge her cargo into small boats in older to land it at Los Angeles. This is the first instance of an arrest at a long distance off shore, but the Prohibition officials believe that seizure on the high seas is legal under the new treaty, because it was the intention of the ship to evade the American laws, and the United States claims the right to seize such vessels wherever they arc found. —Sydney Sun Cable.
