INCREASING ITS EFFICIENCY. APPROPRIATION BILL SIGNED. (Frees Association—By Telegraph— Copyright.) WASHINGTON, March 2. President Coolidge has signed the Naval Appropriation Bill, which includes the authorisation for the starting of three additional cruisers. The appropriation of 450,000 dollars therefore was approved by the House and the Senate, after the House had originally rejected the higher sum and the Senate had approved of it. President Coolidge is expected ■ shortly to sign the Britton Bill, authorising an expenditure of 13,150,000 dollars in modernising the battleships Oklahama and Nevada, which has now been passed by the Senate. The Bill also authorises increasing the cost of the aeroplane carriers Lexington and Saratoga from 36,000,000 to 40.000,000 dollars each, and increases the fleet submarine authorisation by 1,500,000 to 6,300,000 dollars.—A. and N.Z.
