SAFEGUARDING BRITISH INTERESTS. (British Official Wireless.)) Press Association—By Wireless—Copyright. RUGBY, March 2. (Received March 3, at 5.5 p.m.) In answer to a number of questions regarding the steps taken to protect British interests in Nicaragua, Sir Austen Chamberlain said that on January 3 Mr Patterson, the British Charge d’Ailaircs at Managua, had requested the United States Minister to extend to British subjects the benefit of any measures taken by the United States Government to protect United States citizens in Managua on January 28, on inquiry by the United States Government, the British Ambassador at Washington confirmed this request. On February 17 Mr Patterson telegraphed stating that the conditions were very menacing, and that the United States Minister could give no guarantee for the safety of Blitish lives and property in the three principal towns.
