ZINOVIEFF LETTER
AN AUTHENTIC DOCUMENT. BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S BELIEF. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, March 2. Sir Austen Chamberlain told Mr L. R. Lumley (Con.) in the House of Commons that nothing had arisen to throw doubt on the accuracy of the Government’s conclusion in December, 3924, that the Zinovieff letter was authentic, and not a forgery.— (Cheers.) ) Mr Lumley “Has the original letter ever been in the Cabinet’s possession?” Sir Austen Chamberlain : “No ; but the evidence of authenticity is complete.”— A. and N.Z. (Received March 3, at 5.5 p.m.) Sir Austen Chamberlain said that two pieces of confirmatory evidence respecting the authenticity of the Zinovieff letter were available to the present Government. Asked if he was prepared to submit this evidence, he replied: “No. Our scources of information are thoroughly trustworthy, but they would not be available if they could be made public.”
