VIOLENT WHIRLWIND.

WAIKATO VISITATION. SERIOUS DAMAGE DONE. (Peb United Peess Association.) HAMILTON. December 22. A disturbance, accompanied by a severe thunderstorm and heavy rain, visited the Tamahere district yesterday afternoon, and wrought considerable damage. The track of the strange visitation was painly visible the whirlwind affecting an area of about five miles lopg and a few chains wide. At Newstead haystacks were knocked over and hay was whirled aloft. Tops of pine trees wore broken, and fell on the electric and telephone wires, interrupting the services. A bluegum tree was blown across a road, and iron sheeting which covered a hay stack was blown for over a mile. Sheet iron 10ft in length was whisked up info the air like paper.. While the disturbance was going on the noise was terrifying. The whirlwind travelled on towards Matangi, doing damage to haystacks and fences.
