The crews wore changed, Carl Moller and his brother Lester sailing Betty, and Hugh Riddell and C. Churchill having charge of Colleen. Riddell sailed with better judgment than on the previous Saturday, but the result of the race indicated that Colleen is by far the faster of the two boats. Betty was soon left far astern, but Moller showed good judgment, and reduced Betty’s lead considerably before the boats had sailed twice round the course. The competitors were sent away at 0.7 p.m, in a light easterly breeze. Colleen led Betty by 25sec crossing the lino, and by 57sec when the beat to windward was commenced. Both skippers close-hauled on a series of boards fairly close to the Peninsula shore. Colleen showed her superior speed by quickly opening up a big lead, and she had an advantage of smm when she rounded the Anderson s Bay mark, having gained over 4min oyer Betty on the beat.' Riddell increased his lead on the run before the wind to the pile off the Birch street wharf, and Colleen commenced the second round with a lead of smin 57sec. Moller sailed a good race in the second beat to windward, as he steered his boat in open water on the starboard tack for some time, and carried a steady wind. Had he stood on this tack for another 200yds Betty would have been very close to Colleen at the upper harbour mark Betty sailed much faster on the second beat to windward, and when the boats turned the Anderson’s Bay mark Colleen led by 3min 29sec, Betty having gained 2min 28scc on the beat. Colleen drew away again on the run to the Birch street turning pile, and crossed the finishing line 3min 53sec in the lead of Betty. The following are the official sailing times; — Colleen.
