It was a mild and pleasant morning at Wingatui on Saturday, and some interesting work took place. The plough track was mostly in use, and a few horses were allowed to work on the course proper. In the early part of the morning Coastguard and Roman Archer got through useful tasks, and the next to appear was Corn Money, who reeled off half a mile on the plough in 53scc. Ho travelled well all the way. Sweet Melody was allotted a lenient task, and Felony did not shape pleasingly when galloping half a mile on the plough with Lady Dilatory in 53 2-ssoc. Pink Terraco and Baton Bells got through a strong working gallop over six furlongs. Whitarunga and Sonnitc finished together at the end of five furlongs in Imin 6 2-ssec. Pink Note, who looks bright and well, cantered a couple of circuits. Comic Song worked over four rounds 01 the plough at half-pace. King Sol led Black Duke home at the end of live furlongs on the grass in Imin 6sec. They covered the last four furlongs in 53 2-ssec. Monoxide did strong work, and Tembroncy and the chestnut youngster in J. Kuttledgc’s stable were companions in a useful 'task. Bachelor Gay shaped well in a school over two flights of hurdles. Adjutor was outjumping and going away from Kapuna in a school over four flights of hurdles. Qapuna shaped disappointingly. but may be a different horse with the colours up, as he has been doing well in his work. Royal Kilt drew out from Credit at the end of seven furlongs on the plough in Imin 57 sec. They covered the last six in Imin 23scc. Hurdy Curdy galloped 10 furlongs on the plough in 2min 15sec, and came over the last six furlongs in Imin 24scc. He is evidently being set for a race over more ground than lie has tackled in public. Andy and Top Gear set out for a school over fences but the latter dropped C. Dawson at the first jump. Andy after- I wards led him over the jump at the threefurlong post and the stand double. Andy gave a pleasing display, and Top Gear shaped particularly well for a novice at the business. Vaward and Arpent were responsible for a gallop over seven furlongs on the grass in Imin 36sce, and both shaped well. Martist and Money Mine covered half a mile on the plough in 52 l-ssec. Several others were worked, but were allotted only unimportant tasks. Tuki was cantered a couple of circuits on the plough at Wingatui on Saturday, and looks big and healthy for a preparation. Some of Tractor’s stock may find their mission on earth between the flags, as Top Gear shaped very promisingly in a school over fences at Wingatui on Saturday. Mr R. M. Greenslado has decided to spell Rotor, and may not race the Tractor —Aphaoa gelding until next season. Roseday was allowed to drop out of his engagements in the Otago Handicap because it was thought that ho was a bit flattered in the figures for a horse that has not -hewn winning form for over two seasons. i ne acceptances for the first day of the Dunedin summer meeting are a bit dis- , appointing, but there is still ample material for a good card. Although Front Rank won at Timaru, she was not well treated in the Otago Handicap in being asked to give 91b to High Goar and 101 b to Pink Terrace in the Otago Handicap. Centrepiece has been galloping well in his work at Riccarton. Several horses with engagements at Wingatui were galloped on Saturday morning on the Mosgiel Park course. It was rumoured that Mr L. C. Hazlett intended nominating five of his team for the Invercargill Cup, but he weakened and engaged only four horses.—“ Only four.” Andy looks sure to win a good steeplechase. Excellent nominations have been received for the Invercargill meeting, and if a fair percentage of the horses engaged go to the, post it should be one of the best programmes ever got off on the course. From all accounts the Dunedin Jockey Club and Forbury Park Trotting Club will have plenty of material at their disposal for the selection of a secretary. The Auckland Racing Club has granted permission to broadcast the running of the races at the Auckland Cup meeting. B. Jardin will in future make Addington his training headquarters. G lent ruin has been responsible for some useful work, and when next time out should run near to her best form.
