SECRETARY OF TREASURY.
VISIT TO LONDON. ARRANGEMENT OF FINANCE. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, December 9. Referring to-day to the visit of the Secretary of the Treasury (Mr R. E. Hayes) ’to London, the Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. W. Downie Stewart) said that it might appear from the statement published yesterday that one if the main objects of the visit was to make further inquiries into the system of rural credits. This, however, was incorrect. “ The main object of Mr Hayes’s . is’t," said Mr Stewart, “is concerned with general questions of the organisation ol finance as between the High Jomm’s sioner’s office and New Zealand, and Aso as to the machinery in connection with the raising of loams. There are also certain other important questions affecting the Treasury of a technical nature which will be reported on by Mr Hayes. So far as rural advances are _ concerned, the Government has already obtained all the information required on this question through the Royal Commission which reported this year, and the details of its inauguration are already well in iaad ’ r he Treasury is concerned only with certain administrative details as to the working of the Act of last session, and I desire to correct the impression that the Government’s investigations in nis matter are not yet completed.”
