QUEENSLAND v. N.S, WALES. SYDNEY TEAM LEATHER-HUNTING. (Free* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.: SYDNEY, December 9. (Received Dec. 9, at 11.30 p.m.) Queensland in its first innings against New South Wales made 577 runs (Rowe 65, R. Oxenham 134 not out, Gill 54). Howling: Morgan took four wickets for 110. New S°nth Wales in its second innings has lost no wickets for 152 (Phillips 71 not out, Steele 69 not out). Macartney is suffering from a muscular injury to his neck and was unable to play. The game was resumed in fine weather on a batsman’s wicket. The bowling was very weak and Oxenham made the most of it, rapidly increasing his score from all points. Rowe, on the contrary, was very careful and was content to score by singles. The other batsmen treated the bowling with the same contempt as Oxenham. It is many years since a New South Wales team provided such harmless bowling, but the fielding was smart. Oxenham’s innings was the more meritorious as he injured his leg yesterday and had at the finish to get a man to run for him. Both Phillips and Steele opened well for New South Wales, and were apparently not troubled by the bowling, as the runs came quickly, and changes in the attack had no effect. New South Wales in its first innings made 287. ADOPTION OF SMALLER BALL. LONDON, December 8. Mr Findlay, assistant secretary of the Marylcbone Cricket Club, presidi: at the annual meeting of county cricket secretaries at Lord’s, said that the counties would be using the small ball in 1927 at any rate. —Sydney Sun Cable.
