MILLIONAIRE'S CRIME
TRAGEDY IN PARIS FLAT. DOUBLE MURDER AND SUICIDE. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) PARIS, December 8. Mr William H. Payne, aged 60, who was reputed to be an American millionaire, and who occupied, with his paralysed wife, a luxurious flat in the Champs Elysees, was checking accounts with his wife and his housekeeper, Adrienne Henry, when a dispute arose. Mr Payne rushed to a drawer, seized a revolver, and slightly wounded Henry, who ran screaming to the kitchen. Mr Payne followed, firing four shots and killing her. He returned to the sitting room, and fatally shot his wife. He then locked himself in a bedroom, and committed suicide with the revolver. Mr and Mrs Payne recently made a world tour. The husband returned suffering from melancholia.—Sydney Sun Cable.
