The General Committee recommends .with respect to all applications for permission to paint or di-piay advertising signs on fences, boards, or walls of buildings, such fences, boards, and walls be regarded as advertising hoardings, and the advertisements thereon be charged for at licensed hoarding rates. The committee reports that applications from tho various swimming clubs and organisations for the use of the baths on specified evenings for club practice have been granted for the hour 845 to 9.45 p.m., and subicct to the condition that not less than 12 members shall be present and make use of the baths on each club night. Permission has also been granted tho Otago Centre Ixew Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, to hold tta meetings at tho baths on the first Monday in each month between the. hours ot Lio and 9.45 p.m., the meetings to be held in the large dressing-room. One apphea tion for permission to paint a sign on fence at tho Waterloo Hotel, and one ap plication to paint a sign on fence at tne Oval Hotel have been granted, such fences to be regarded as advertising hoardings, and tho advertisement thereon charged tor at hoarding rates. One application tor permission to paint an advertisement on the wall of a private garage in the Aorth road has been declined. . The Works Committee reports that authority has been granted the city engineer to proceed with the work pf the con struction of the .extensions of M B r 'de street and Cargilllroad to the east of An derson’s Bay road, in order to give access to the new railway yard. The estimated cost is £1074, one-t: ird of which amount of £368 9s 8d is to be borne by the council, one-third by the Railways Department, and tho balance, amounting to. £337. by the Harbour Board. Complaints have been received regarding the depositing of rub bish next to the property occupied by Mrs Townsend in Leith street. There is no authority for depositing rubbish at the site referred to, and it is the. intention to prosecute any person apprehended in the act of utilising the locality as a refuse tip A notice board warning persons against the depositing of further material is being erected. ' Authoritv has been granted to lav a 12in pipe in lieu of the existing 6m pipe in the South road, at the Cole street junction, at an estimated cost of £l6 The pipe is required to relieve flooding which continually takes place in tho locality m times of heavy rain. . The Water Committee reports that in preparation for the paving of Rattray street and Maclaggan street, from Princes street to Clark street, it will be necessary to carry out certain alterations and extensions to the water mains hi these streets. Authority has been granted to carry out the necessary w-orks which will provide for the laying of a sin main on the south side of Rattray street, a Mn main on the north side, both to be laid in the footpath, and a Uin nipe along the footpath on each side of Macias com street at. a total estimated cost of £"97. Authority has heen granted to renew portion of the caretaker. 5 house at the southern resarvofr at an estimated cost of £4O, and also to provide and lay a pipe drain for oarrvint? off house drainage. at an estimated cost of £6.
