ALLEGED THEFT.
A MISSING TYPEWRITER. EX-INDIAN ARMY OFFICER CHARGED (Pbb United Peers Association.) AUCKLAND, September 27. Patrick Shields Hargreaves an ex-Indian Army officer, was charged in the Police Court with the theft of a typewriter valued at ±l7 from a guest at an hotel. The manager of a typewriting agency gave evidence that on August 31 accuscd offered to sell him a typewriter for £B. recognised it as a machine reported through the police as missing. He made an excuse, and asked Hargreaves to call later. Accused returned in five minutes and asked .for •.he typewriter. Witness refused to let !t B °’, Accused stated to the police that he bought the- typewriter from a man named Clarkson for ±TB, but the man could not bo located. ... , Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed ior trial, bail in £IOO being allowed.
