(Received Sept. 23, at 5.5 p.m.) Mr Roy Chapman Andrews, the arena oloeist returned to-day from an ineffectual attempt to penetrate the Gobi Desert for scientific exploration. The expedition. was halted at Peking by the warring factions. It is feared that the camel train with supplies valued at 25,000 dollars, which are sent to the desert to awaut the coming of the eixpedition was annihilated by bands of marauders as it has not been heard from since it left Shanghai.—A. and N.Z.
