WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. Crs O’Neill (chairman), W. Ritchie, G. Ross, H, 8. Sheat, M. J, M’Oabe, J. Chapman, G. Clark, R. L. Smith, J. _C. O’Connell attended the monthly meeting of the Waihcmo County Council on Saturday. A deputation of four ratepayers of both Waihomo and Maniototo Counties requested the council to assist in widening the swing bridge at Capburn. over the Tuieri River, which connected the two counties. The deputation stated £IOO had been offered privately.—Mr A. M'William, engineer, estimated the total cost at about £450 and it was decided that \V aihemo County should expend £175 on the bridge, in the event of Maniototo Council doing likewise. Mr J. W. Clearwater applied for permission to plough in gorse- on the road lines by his property.—Granted. Mr Gregor M. Donald requested the coun cil to put pipes through the road near his property where water banked up and flowed on to his ground.—The engineer to attend to the matter. Mr Ernest Stanley complained that the charge of £24 for lorry dues was excessive, as he only used the lorry occasionally, and did not go past the railway station. — Received. It was decided to forward the following remit to the New Zealand Counties’ Conference: “That it is the opinion of this council that motor lorries running to railway stations only should bo charged a considerably lower rate than those competing against railways, and that farmers who are only on the roads occasionally should be entitled to a substantial rebate. J. R. Marks, chairman No. 16 District Highway Council, wrote that the Main Highways Board regretted being unable to declare the Middlemarch-Dunback road a main highway.—Received. The District Engineer of the Public Works Department wrote that a typographical error occurred in bis letter, saying that a heavy traffic bridge over Muddy Clock was absolutely “unnecessary’’— “recessary” was intended. —Received. The County Engineer (Mr A. M’William) reported as follows; Bushoy Riding.—General surface work done on Horse Range road; maintenance gravel put on main highway—Allandale road to Smith's corner; grading will bo deno when weather is suitable. Bushev corner to Palmerston is very potty, and will require maintenance gravel. Goodwood Riding.—General work done. Two culverts are broken, and will be repaired as soon ns possible. Meadow Bank Riding.—Gravelling is required. Grading done from Nimmo’s to Pine’s. Blue Mountain Riding.—General surface work done. Crossings at Flourmill Coutt’s, Pino’s, Munro’s. and Terrace Farm put in. Maintenance gravel put on Limekilns, Steven’s, Gulßo’s, and M’Lew’s roads. Dunback Ruling.—Grading done on Stonoburn road. Pipes put in Jamieson’s road, and rock spread on worst portions. Gravelling and grading done between Bluff and Sailor’s Cutting.—Report received. Work to bo done where the engineer thought necessary. It was decided to have 125yds of metal broken and put on bad places on Moonlight and neighbouring roads. Accounts amounting to £520 16s 8d were passed for payment. The motion passed at a special meeting in favour of amalgamating with Waikouaiti County, was road, and caused a lot of discussion. Eventually it was passed.
