TO-DAY’S FOOTBALL.

RUGBY. Another fine double attraction will be provided at Carisbrook this afternoon. At 1.30 p.m. the University A and B teams will meet. The match should provide a spectacular game. When these two teams met in the first round a fast, open game was witnessed, the B’s putting up a fine game in the second spell. An even better exhibition should be witnessed in the game between these teams this afternoon. This match will be followed by the Alhambra v. Pirates game. _ Alhambra have been showing marked improvement of late, and their backs are shaping much better and are expected to extend Pirates this afternoon. The students are endeavouring to provide a still further attraction by arranging a procession of students in their capping costumes and providing some amusement to the public during the intervals. At Bishopscourt, Kaikorai will meet Union, and at Tahuna Park Dunedin will meet Southern. Taieri Rovers and Zingari-Richnioud will meet at Montecillo. Should the weather break it will be found necessary to transfer the University A and B match from Carisbrook. This game will be then played at Tahuna Park at 2.45 p.m. ASSOCIATION. OTAGO v. WELLINGTON. The interprovincial match, which is timed to start on the Caledonian Ground at 3 o’clock to-day, will be the first meeting of an Otago and Wellington team on a Dunedin ground for ( 18 years. The present match is the result of the inauguration this year of the Football Association Trophy Competition. The trophy was presented by the Football Association, England, to be competed for annually by the four major associations. The Wellington team, which arrived in Dunedin on Thursday afternoon, is regarded as a very strong combination, and contains many well-known players, together with some younger players who have come to the fore this season in club football and so secured representative honours. The Otago team should render a good account of itself, being a fast, tricky, and well-balanced combination. Spectators visiting the Caledonian Ground should be well rewarded with a fast, open display of football. RUGBY LEAGUE. Owing to the Caledonian Ground being in use for Association football, the two senior League matches will be played at Culling Park to-day, the first match commencing at 2.45 between Athletic and Christian Brothers, while Kaikorai and City will meet on the Oval. There will also be two junior grade matches on the Association grounds, the other junior grade playing at Chisholm Park.
