GERMAN PRINTING MACHINE IN STATE WORKS.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib,—lt may interest some to know that I have just learnt from good authority that two German printing machines have recently been installed in the Government Printing Office in Wellington, one of which is placed immediately under the roll of honour, and, as there is nowhere else in tliis office for the machine, there is a proposal to shift the roll of honour. There is probably no loss to the Government in purchasing fho German-made machines. In every probability it has saved money in doing so, but what I wish to impress upon the minds of all those who assist in placing Mr Coates at the head of affairs is that he has condemned foreign goods and has lectured, “British goods first, support local industry, etc.” With these two foreign machines, and the allowing of importation of Canadian eats (while our own farmers are left with their 0.-ts in store) and foreign timber, while our own timber workers are working half time, I have come to iho conclusion that our Prime Minister is (rue to ins pre-election advertisements; he is getting things done. —I am, etc., Catlin. Pnkctino. July 5. fAs far as we can gather, one German machine has been imported for use in the Government printing works, but. there is no proposal to shift the roll of honour to make room for it. — Ed.
