“ BIG DAY.”

APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC. The ‘‘Big Day” of the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association is n6w in its fifth year, and thOre was a wellattended and enthusiastic meeting in the club rooms on Saturday evening to carry out the recommendation of the committee of the association—“ That the effort to raise funds for the poor’and needy of the-city in the form of ‘Big Day’ be repeated this year.” Various ■ committees were formed, and they will start work immediately. “Big Day,” along with a Paddy’s Market, has hitherto been held on a Friday and Saturday respectively,' and at this juncture it was left for the executive to arrange the dates. The distributionfor local assistance is left in the capable hands of the Salvation Army; and Citizens’ Relief Committee, whilst 20 per cent, goes to the Blind Soldiers and Sailors’ Fund. , The travellers, in the cause for which they are willing workers, recognise that in their •‘Big Day” effort they have always been well supported by every class of the community in and around Dunedin, not to mention the cordial relations existing between '■ themselves and their country friends, who always came forward with gifts in kind. It is the intention to run “Big Day” on similar lines to previous years, and the same high standard aimed at in the class and distribution of goods In exchange for the envelopes sold by the men in pierrot costume. Gifts, either in qash or goods, may be sent to-the secretary, Mr, George Davidson, or Mr J. M. Lalng, organiser, care of the Commercial Travellers’ Club, Dowling street. ‘ ' ’ '
