TAXATION OF LUXURIES. POSSIBLE LEVY ON BETTING. (Free* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON. April 11. The special correspondent of the Sunday News states that he has reason to believe that Mr Winston Churchill (Chancellor of the Exchequer), in the Budget, will propose a tax on imported precious stones, articles of jewellery made of gold, and furs, and also a modified tax on betting, to he introduced in the next financial year. About £15,000,000 worth of the luxuries mentioned are imported annually and the tax on these is expected to yield £5,000,000—A. and N.Z. Cable.
