"THE FARMER’S WIFE."
The second night of the season of Eden Philpotts's amusing Devonshire comedy, “The Farmer’s ’Wife,” at His Majesty s Theatre last evening was as great a success as the opening night. Mr Townsend Wlntling, who produced the play, takes the leading pait as Samuel Sweetland, a Devonshire farmer in search of a successor to his late much lamented wife. There is packed into the three scenes of the piece a wealth or humour and fine impersonation that makes “The Farmer’s Wife” one of the outstanding performances of the year in Dunedin. Mr Whitling is ably supported by a strong cast and the characterisation of the varied types to be found on an English rural estate are a credit to all the players. The Farmer’s Wife” will be staged again this evening and to-morrow evening.
