HUNGARIAN SCANDALS

DEATH OF DEPUTY HIR DENIED. (Prc«° Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) BUDAPEST, April 10. (Received April 11, at 5.5 p.m.) The death of Hir is denied. He has been seriously ill, but is progressing favourably towards recovery’. —Reuter. It was reported from Paris a few days ago on the authority of Le Matin that the machinations of the Hungarian Nationalists to remove the persons involved in the Hungarian bank note case, who*-- evidence was capable of damaging them had been the cause of the death of the Hungarian Deputy Hir. Acording to I.e Matin, the Nationalists forced M. Hir to open a vein. He was taken to hospital, and was progressing favourably when he was suddenly seized with violent pains, and died muttering that he was dying as Schultze had died. Schultze (a lithographer who gave himself up in Berlin some weeks ago) was also involved in the affair, and died mysteriously, but at the inquest a verdict of death from natural causes was returned. Le Matin stated that .medical investigation established that M. Hit’s death was the result of poisoning, and that the Hungarian secret societies had instructed a doctor to get rid of him.
