GREAT OIL FIRE
BLAZE IN CALIFORNIA. LIGHTNING STRIKES TANKS (Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright.) VANCOUVER, April 7. A message from San Luis Bispo, in California, states that a great fire is raging on the Union Oil Company’s fields. The fire started when lightning struck i huge underground concrete tank. Four tanks are now burning, making probably the largest conflagration experi enced in the history of the oilfields of the United States. If the barricades which are being built fail to check the spread of the flaming liquid the company’s officials consider that nothing can save the remaining tanks. .. The loss so far is estimated to be in the neighbourhood of ■ 10,000,000 dollars: —A. and N.Z. Cable.
