MANCHESTER UNITY.

Loyal Albion Lodge meeting was well attended, a pleasing incident being the reappearance of P.G. Bro. W. Stewart, who had been absent for some time as the result of an accident. The newly elected oflicers, G.M. Bro. Aitken, N.G. Bro. L. Calvert, V.G. Bro. H. S. Calvert, G.Sec. Bro. P. Cunningham, Warden Bro. Harwood, and Guardian Bro. Poison occupied the chairs. Warden Bro. Harwood resigned, and the election for the position was keenly contested, resulting in the return of .Bro. Poison. Bro. Coxhead, formerly of Milton Lodge, was elected guardian. These officers were duly installed by P.P.G.M. Bro. J. A. Robson. The annual balance sheet was presented. Notwithstanding that the sick pay during the year was the highest on record, the progress made was satisfactory. The small number of new members was disappointing and this subject gave rise to some discussion. The interest earnings were encouraging, and as there were no outstanding interests this gave rise to complimentary reference. Loyal Duaedin Lodge opened the new year’s meeting with a good attendance, many old members being present. The newly-elected officers made a good start, and showed evidence of ability and enthusiasm for their work. In commenting on this, the old members asked for Lmreused • interest on the part of a larger number of young members, if only in recognitio a of the devoted services of the workers of the past. A visit was paid by Past Per. Sec. Bro. O. Naumann and Past Treasurer Bro. St .T. J. Dunne, these brethren being heartily welcomed. Both of these brethren occupy responsible positions, and they combined in paying a tribute to the value of the experience they had gained in connection with lodge work. Two candidates were initiated. Loyal Gaversham Lodge held its installation ceremony, the following officers being electedi—tr.M., Bro. J. Lunam; N.G., Bro. J. Hey; Y.G., Bro. Grant; G. Secretary? Bro. Jackson; Warden, Bro. Wallace; Guardian, Bro. Wright. They were installed by Bro. V.D.Gr.M. Bro. G. Clarke and duly impressed with their responsibilities. The annual balance sheet was presented. It was pleasing to note that the interest earnings exceeded the fairly heavy amount paid in sick pay and funeral benefits. There can be no doubt that the lodge is building up a strong financial position. The statement that the hall property was now entirely free from debt was received with applause. This had taken a fey years to accomplish. It was announced that an official visit from all lodges would be received next lodge night, and that Per. Secretary Bro. A. Goodall and the Prov. G.M. of Timaru had announced their intention of being present at the gathering. P.G. Roberts, of the City of Christchurch Lodge addressed the meeting at some length on various matters. He gave valuable information on lodge work in Canterbury, and offered some small criticisms, which were kindly received. He was accorded a special vote of thanks. The adjourned summoned meeting of Loval Queen of Otago, Kaitangata, was well attended. 'Die election of officers resulted;—G.M., Sis. Scott; N.G., Sis. Wilson; V.G., Sis. Robertson; G. Secretary, Sis. M’Gillivray, sen.; Warden, Sis. Finch; Guardian, Sis. Gilmour, jun.; Auditor, V.G. Sis. J. Robertson. P.G. Bro. C. Hislop acted as installing officer, and performed the duties in an able manner. The various officers were addressed and urged to maintain the high standard of work for which the lodge was noted. The interest in the lodge and its meetings had been well sustained during the past year, and it was hoped that this year would prove to be as prosperous. ’ Motions of sympathy were recorded on behalf of two sisters on account of bereavements.
