OLD IDENTITIES’ PICNIC.

The Tort Chalmers old identities’ annual picnic was held at Quarantine Island on Saturday. Favoured with glorious weather, the outing was throughly enjoyed by the 'arge number of young and old who patronised this picnic. For many years the picturesque island has been closed for all social functions, hut thanks to the society’s energetic secretary (Mr B. Kncwstubb), the Marine Department kindly consented to allow the society the use of the island for its annual festivity. Among the visitors present were a number of the Dunedin Early Settlers’ Association, including Messrs W Patterson (Jura, 1868), J. Bain (Barking, 1819), G. Brown (Pladda, 1861), J. Taylor (Caribou, 1867), and G. Knight (Aiding®., 1862). Descendants of early residents o£ Otago were present from the North Island, and the local contingent supplied those of honoured age, among who were noticed Messrs J. Mill, J. Knewstubb, T. Thomson, S. Voisey, W. Stewart, and Mesdames Woolaey and Robertson. The honour of being the oldest pioneer present was again won by Mrs Woolsey (Magnet, 1840). The president (Mr W.
