WORK AND WAGES.
THE OUTLOOK OF LABOUR. INTERESTING ANALYSIS. THE EVIL 01' GOING SLOW. Fr«H Association —By Telegraph—Copynafct SYDNEY, October 20. Mr James Burns, head of the Burns, Philp Company, has returned from a visit to Europe and America. Comparing Labour conditions, he said that in America the Labour position was quite different from what it was in Australia. In the States the worker realised that it was his job that paid the wages, whereas in Australia the boss was considered to do that. One worked for the benefit of his job, the other used his job to pull the boss—or the capitalist—down on the chance of getting some of the spoil. Mr Burns uttered a sweeping condemnation of the strike affairs at the port of Auckland. He described it as the worst, so far as Labour conditions were concerned, he had even seen, adding: “I have never seen slower work than I saw done there.”
