DUNEDIN SOCIAL WORKERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The Dunedin Social Workers’ Association was inaugurated some weeks ago. Two meetings have already been held, ani at the inaugural meeting representatives from most of the social organisations in the city were present. The object is to combine together in all matters affecting social problems in the city where united action is necessary. The following officers were elected: —President (ex officio), the Mayor; chairman of committee, Rev. G. IS. Moreton; hon. secretary, Sister Nora. The following alms and objects were unamimously agreed to: —To endeavour to meet by united action all needs arising out of any unusual form of calamity or distress; to take united action in checking social evils in the city; to deal with all matters relating to social health and purity; to avoid overlapping amongst the various organisations; to check unauthorised collecting for charities; to review and report on all legislation dealing with charitable institutions and social problems. The Child Welfare Bill has claimed the attention of the association, and the Minister of Education has embodied in the Bill a number of amendments as set forth by the Dunedin Social Workers’ Association.
