HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
EXTENSION .OP MANGAHAO. (Pen United Press Association.) WAIPAWA, October 20. The ceremony of officially switching on the MangahaO hydro-electric ' current to supply the central Hawke's Bay Power Poar.l took place this afternoon at the Ongaonga sub-station; ' The Prime Minister sent a telegram regretting his inability to attend and wishing the scheme the greatest possible success. The opening ceremony was performed by Sir George Hunter, M.P., who briefly reviewed hydro-electric development Jn New Zealand. Mr C. Patterson, chairman of the Power Foard, traversed the various steps taken towards the formation Of the board, and stated that up to the present the total expenditure on he scheme hai been £77,350. So far 740 buildings had been connected up. Various other speakers stressed the importance of the scheme as a vital link in the Dominion's electrical chain.
