Obtainable at all our shops.—Salisbury Butchery.—Advt. ADDINGTON NATIONAL MARKET. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. Tlie fat stock market in connection with National Week was held to-duy. The display of fat stock, as a rule, is the best collective exhibition in the dominion. To such an extent, however, has the entry been in excess of requirements at recent Nationals that, prices have been depressed particularly in the case of cattle, and this experience caused a much less “classy 1 entry this year. Except-for a small proportion of show bullocks, the cattle section comprised ordinary good commercial sorts. The market, however, was a “hot” one, quite the host since before the slump. Of fat sheep the entry was of average National class, there being a fine display of show stock. Prices were also good. Other sections, notably pigs, sold very freely. > Store Sheep.—lt was a brisk sale with prices generally above recent rates, hoggets soiling particularly well. An outstanding lino of halfbred ewe hoggets sold at 45s Cd, and a pen of threoquarter-brea adult wethers at 39s 9d. Values were: Good halfbred ewe hoggets to 45a 6d, threequartcr-bred 35s Id to 36s 6d, crossbred 31s Id to 365, mixed sexed threo-quarter-hred hoggets 27s 9d to 32s 6d, sound-mouthed thrceqnarter-bred ewes in lamb 42s to 42s 6d, aged owes 20s to 28a 6d, two-tooi,bed halfbred ewes in lamb 46s 9d, six and eight-toothed halfbred wethers 395, two and four-toothed 35s 6d to 37s 6 cl, six and eight-toothed threequarter-bred wethers 39s 9d. Spring lambs: About 20 small spring lambs were forward and sold at from 25s to 37s 6d. Fat Sheep.—Outside entries included North Otago, South Otago, and Southland lines. The sale was easier at the commencement by Is a head on last ivcck, but halfway through there was a hardening market, and values at the close for butchers sheep were Is to Is 6d better than last sale. There was spirited competition for show sheep, the ton price being £7 I2s 6d each for three Shropshire Romney cross wethers, sold by F. Bull (Waddington). Quite a number of penis made from £3 to £4. , There wore very few outstanding ewes forward. Extra prim© show wethers realised £4 8s to £7 12s 6d, gooa £3 3s to £4 ss, extra prime ordinary wethers 54s to 60s, prime 49s to 535. medium 45s to 48s 6cl, light 40s to 445. prime ewes 41s to 455, medium 37s to 40s 6d, light 30s to 36s 6d, prime hoggets 49s to 50s, ordinary 29s to 355. Fat Cattio.—The entries were smaller than an average market. Cattle were for ward from Wairarapa, South Otago, and all parts of Canterbury province. The entry was well on the small side for the fortnight’s requirements, and values were up on previous sale by £4 per head for prime medium-weight beef, and £3 for heavy. In some cases, choice medium weight beef made £3 3s per 1001 b, prime medium weight 57s 6d to 61s. light prime 53s to 575, heavy weight beef 59s to 555, extra heavy 47s 6d to- 62s 6d, inferior and rough beef 35b to 40s.
