SHIPPING DISPUTE
TEEMS OF SETTLEMENT. ENDORSEMENT. BY UNIONS. Prc-ai Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, August 4. At a meeting of the Melbourne, Adelaide, and Brisbane branches of the Seamen’s Union the terras of the settlement of the shipping dispute were endorsed. In Fremantle the agreement was adopted with the exception of one clause relating to engagements, which was referred back to the ship-owners, through the union’s Committee of Management. The acceptance of the agreement by Sydney is regarded as certain. The postponement of yesterday’s meeting was due to a misunderstanding concerning the time of the meeting. It is likely that some of the vessels will be manned forthwith. The list of idle tonnage exceeds that of any present maritime stoppage, over 120 vessels being held up. SYDNEY UNION ACCEPTS TERMS. SYDNEY, August 4. (Received August 4, at 8.10 p.m.) A mass meeting of the Seamen’s Union decided to accept the terms of the settlement. It is expected by the end of next week all the idle vessels in Australian ports will be working again.
