EMPIRE PRESS UNION
DEPARTURE OF DELEGATION. MESSAGE I ROM LORD BURNHAM. Press Association —By Telegraph —Copyright. LONDON, July 12. As he was departing from Southampton, Lord Burnham gave a special message for Australians and New Zealanders. He said that there was abundant evidence that the delegates carried with them the good wishes of the British public. It was felt that they could render considerable service in emphasising the essential solidarity between the dominions, going, as they were, by the All-Red route. Sir James Allen had conveyed to them the good wishes of his dominion. It seemed a happy omen that a week before their departure they had secured the assent cf all the parties concerned in a reduction of the press rates, which would be most serviceable to Australian and New Zealand and to the British press, in regard noth to an increased supply and the interchange of news. Lord Burnham said he believed, not merely by reason of what they had done, jbut in consequence of the marvellous acceleration in cable efficiency now in progress, as well as in the development of wireless that they were bound _to have lower rates for press messages in every part of the British dominions and colonies. The delegation was fairly representative of the British press. He specially regretted that, owing to the pressure of business, they would riot be able to spend a longer time in New Zealand. —Reuter. MORNING SDTTS DISCARDED. LONDON, July 12. The Empire press delegates decided not to carry morning suits and top hate, preferring the comfort of lounge suite for all day functions. —Sydney Sun Cable.
