SHIPPING DISPUTES
THE INTER-STATE CRISIS. BOTH SIDES HOLD MEETINGS. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyrlgut. SYDNEY, July 13. The shipping trouble will take on a more acute phase to-morrow, when it is understood that the men employed on all the coastal steamers will give notice. The Seamen’s Union will not fill their places, and the vessels will bo rendered idle. Meetings have been called of the various branches of the Federated Seamens Union to reconsider the threat issued to the shipowners that the men will bo withdrawn to-morrow if their demands are not conceded. A conference has also been called by the Commonwealth Steamship Owners’ Association of all shipowners, at which a common understanding on the attitude towards the seamen’s demand will be sought. INSTRUCTIONS OF UNION. SHIPS not to be manned. SYDNEY, July 13. (Received July 13, at 10 p.m.) _ The Seamen’s Union has instructed its members not to man any inter-State or coastal vessels requiring crows. Already two coastal vessels and one inter-State vessel are held up, and unless an eleventh-hour settlement is reached all the crews will b© withdrawn.
