V.R.C. MEETING. GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, July 12. (Received July 12, at 5.5 p.m.) The following is the result of the V.R.C. National Steeplechase:— Dundalk, 10.5 (Myers) 1 Mailman, 9.0 (Waugh) 2 Palbi, 12.1 (M'Kenzie) 3 Heavy rain fell overnight, and the track was soft and treacherous. The race was a chapter of accidents, and only seven out of 13 starters finished, most of these losing their riders in the early stages. This left Hoaina in charge, and he maintained the lead until he came to grief near the abattoirs. Palbi then left from Dundalk and Mailman, but Dundalk led over the last fence, and going on won by six lengths. Time, Omin 22§sec. The Douttagolla Hurdle Race resulted as follows:—Parupa 1, Pairland 2, Berrenbo 3. Six horses started. Won by three lengths. Time, 4min ISJsec. BOXING. PELKEY DEFEATS BAXTER. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, July 12. (Received July 12, at 5.5 p.m.) At the Stadium Pelkey defeated Ern Baxter in the 12th round, when the match was stopped. Tho loser was overmatched, and was badly punished. BILLIARDS. M’CONACITY v. FALKINER. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 11. In the game of IS,OOO up between M’Couachy and Falkiner the scores at 5 p.m. were:— Falkiner (in play) 7901 Breaks of 176 and 120. M'Oonachy 7639 Breaks of 127, 186, 142, 162, 110. WRESTLING MATCH.
