OCEAN YACHT RACE
ID ALIA REACHES PAPEETE. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. PAPEETE, July 9. The Idalia arrived on Wednesday, finishing second, having taken 28 days ■to sail from San Francisco. —Renter. What was claimed to be the longest yacht race in the history of the game—* irom San Francisco to Papeete —started on Wednesday, June 10, when three schooners and a ketch spread sail at the Golden Gate. The distance is between 3500 and 4000 miles. The yachte ' were Mr L. A. Norris’s Mariner, Mr John Fiver’s Eloise, X>r E. R. Parker's Idalia* and Mr Mark Foxana’s Shawnee. The( first three flew the flag of the San Francisco Yacht Club. The race was held under the auspices of the San Etancisca Yacht Ciub, and was sanctioned by tha Pacific Coast Yachting Association. The) race was won by Mr Norris’s, Mariner, which arrived at Papeete on July 1.
