Croup at Night Try This “ Outside ” Remedy No “Dosing”; Just Rub It On The advantage of treating cold troubles externally is especially marked in the oft-recurring colds of children, because constant “dosing” with internal medicine is so apt to upset their delicate little stomachs. When Vicks Vapoßub was introduced here, this ‘ vapour remedy was enthusiastically received. Mothers from all over New Zealand have written about its prompt effectiveness for croup and other cold troubles. One of their letters is reproduced here. Used at Bedtime, Vicks Averts Nigkt Attacks When the child seems croupy in the evening, use Vicks as a preventive. Apply it over the throat and chest, spread on thickly and cover with a warm flannel. If croup comes on without warning, the use of Vicks often brings relief in fifteen minutes eases the difficult breathing and subdues the racking cough. Vicks is an ointment so made that, when applied to the throat and chest, the medication takes effect in two distinct ways. First, it is absorbed through and stimulates the skin like a poultice or plaster, relieving the tightness and soreness. Second, its ingredients— Menthol, Camphor, Eucalyptus, Thyme, Turpentine, etc. —are released by the body heat as vapours and inhaled with each breath direct to the inflamed air passages. Being applied externally, Vicks can be used as freely and as often as desired on even the youngest child. Modem mothers’ everywhere keep their children free from troublesome colds by applying Vicks at the first sneeze. And, of course, its just as good for the cold troubles of adults. Vapours Best for Colds Cold troubles are inflammation of the lining of the air passages and lungs. And, because these inflamed parts can be reached directly only by vapours, this modern vaporising ointment is ideal for colds in the head or chest, catarrh, asthma, sore throat, bronchitis and influenza.
