OIL BORE EXPLOSION.

THE PLANT DAMAGED. (Peb United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 3. A big blow-out of gas, heralded by a terrific roar, occurred at tho oil bore at Moturoa to-night, damaging the boring plant and hurling mud, stones, and parts of the derrick in all directions. The bore is one of two put down bv Taranaki Oilfields (Ltd.), and is 14f8ft down. A dense black cloud enwrapped the derrick, and through it were hurled sheets of iron and timber, and big showers of stones were thrown long distances, somo failing on the wharves and in the harbour. Tho mud which was thrown up filled tho atmosphere with a strong odour like kerosene. Tile derrick was not badly damaged, but the attached shed was completely blown out. One large stone penetrated tho roof of tea rooms near by. Tho men on duty at the boro were uninjured. It must bo remembered that similar blowouts have occurred at the bore put down in the past, and are now to be expected • so to-night’s incident should not be unduly magnified.
