THE STRANDED CYRENA.
SALVAGE OPERATIONS. A TEMPORARY CESSATION. (From Ou.k Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Juno 4. Owing to a southerly setting in with a heavy sea running, salvage operations had to be abandoned on tho Cyrona to-day. Tho vessel has changed her position slightly, and is now more -broadside on to tho heavy seas. Yesterday and to-day have not apparently boon responsible for any further damage to tho oil carrier. Tho process of scaling down tho holds to make them completely airtight in view of compressed air pumping operations being initiated is under way, and it is anticipated that a greater degree of buoyancy will be obtained, when an effort to float her is made, probably on Saturday. NAUTICAL INQUIRY. ASSESSORS APPOINTED. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Juno 4. The Marino Department advises that Captains Edwin (of Wellington) and Barron (of Christchurch) have been appointed nautical assessors to the inquiry regarding the stranding of the steamer Cyrona. No date has yet been fixed for the hearing.
