DISSATISFACTION AT LYTTELTON. Further indications of the disaatisfacHoM that exists among- waterside workers with the rates of pay as granted by the Arbitral tion Court in its last award were in evidence at Lyttelton on Saturday, when el demand was made by men working on the Canterbury Company’s steamer Storm for, an extra 6cl an hour on the ordinary rate of 2s 2id pei- hour for the unloading o{ casings. . . The men contended that the casings had, a disagreeable odour, and demanded extra pay. The consignment was a small oney and the Canterbury Company preferred tot pay the demand rather than delay the vessel over the week-end. There were rumours on Saturday that tnd Lyttelton waterside workers will not accept employment yesterday morning for the load-; ing of frozen meat on the Rotorua- The consignment for the vessel is 12,000 carcases. On arrival at Lyttelton on Saturday morning the Rotorua required four gangs, but the only labour the New Zealand Shipping Company could obtain, waa one gang for the loading of wool and pelts. The fact that no other labour could be Obtained was, however, no indication that' the men would not work the meat cargo, for there has been a shortage of labour since Thursday owing to the number of vessels in port.
