BIG SHIPPING DEAL
SEVENTEEN STEAMERS INVOLVED. LARGE EXPENDITURE. press Association—By Telegraph— Copyrignt. LONDON, January 7. The weekly shipping journal, Fairplay, states that negotiations have been practically completed for tho sale of a fleet of 17 steamers at present managed by the Blue Star Line, London, on behalf of tho Union Cold Storage'Company. The vessels are fitted with refrigerating machinery, and have a carrying capacity of nearly 150,000 tons dead weight. Tho deal involves some millions sterling, and it is tho largest of its kind recorded in recent years. British shipping interests engaged in the South American trade are believed to be tho prospective purchasers. —Router.
