He won by three yards from Joie Ray, the former United States mile champion, and clipped a full second from the previous record, held by Ray.—A. and N.Z. Cable. (Received Jan. 7, at 10.30 p.m.) Nurmi made two other world’s records, winning a 1500 metres race in 3min 56 l-liaco and a 5000 metres race in 14min 44Jscc. At a meeting of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association it was resolved —“ Auckland Centro regards with surprise the acceptance of a southern tender by the New Zealand Council for the championship medals of 1925, and cannot see its way to accept medals from the council unless Auckland jewellers are given equal rights of tendering.” -It was resolved that the carnival be held on the Domain on January 24. SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Per United Press Association.) DARGAVTLE, January 7. The Mayor of Dargaville (Mr Hornblow) has received a cablegram from W. M'Devitt stating that, through the retirement of Paddon, the title ox the world’s champion reverts to him, and asking Mr Hornblow if the offer to provide a purse for a race for the world’s championship on the Northern Wairoa River still holds good. Mr Hornblow is now seeking support, and is meeting with a fair measure of success. Ho will reply to M'Devitt next week.
