THE MAORI HOUSE.

FUTURE OF MATA-ATUA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, December 3. When the Now Zealand Government made a definite statement that the dominion would not participate in the Exhibition next year Mr A. F. Roberts let a contract for the dismantling and packing of the Maori House, Mata-Atua. The contractors soon completed their task, and the bouse is now ready to bo shipped to New Zealand. Even though the Government may review its previous decision with regard to continuance, Mr Roberts considers it advisable to send tho house out to New Zealand immediately for erection at tho Dunedin Exhibition, if this should meet with the wishes of the authorities there From several points of view this perhaps is a wise course, but particularly because Mr Roberts contemplates using the space now occupied by the Maori house for the erection of a model of Rotorua and tho thermal activities. This may be a pandering to tho popular taste, but'in spite of what has been said to the contrary, one of the features that was lacking in the Pavilion this past season was a spectacular presentation of the tourist attractions of New Zealand. The appeal has to bo made to a restless multitude of people, and photographs arc not enough to arrest attention. A large mechanical model of the thermal district would undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on young and old alike.
