The architect reported that the fence in front of the North-East Valley School was in bad condition and not worth further repair. He suggested that steps be taken to have a new tone© erected, and that the School Committee be asked to contribute to the coat.—lt was decided to ask the committee to what extent it'would assist, and also to communicate with the department on the matter. . , , Leith Valley: The architect recommended repairs to fence £l4 iteming wall £6, and renovation of residence £14 —total L 44. The East Taieri School Committee applied for improved lighting in the middle room of the school, and for repairs to window blinds and door furniture.—The architect was instructed to report on the question of lighting, and carry out the necessary repairs. , An application for repairs to fence between the glebe and tile school ground, from th© teacher at Ratanui, was agreed to. The Wedderburn Slchool Committee applied to have the outside of the school painted, and to have the large boards attended to.—The architect was instructed to The Oamam Junior High School manual training department asked that in view of the fact that the Waitaki High School Board would shortly be taking over the work of the manual training in Oamaru, the Education Board transfer to the Waitaki High Schools’ Board the apparatus and equipment in the present manual training centre at Middle School. —The Chairman said he had stated at last meeting what he thought of the department, and he had no reason to alter his decision. This matter should have been fixed up long ago; it was no good to them. It would make a change in the whole of the manual department, and before they acceded to the request they would have to think it over. They might have said they would take over the staff as well as the school—lt was decided to grant the transfer. The Glenomaru School Committee applied for repairs to windows of infant room and to school conveniences.—Architect to act. An application for two cupboards for library books, four blackboards, and two easels was received from the Balclutha School Committee. —It was decided .to grant the application for the cupboards, and ask the head master to submit a report on the other matters.

High Street: (a) Committee’s application for the kalsomining of the walls of the school. The architect recommended the expenditure of £25 in brushing down and patching the walls, but that more be done this season, (b) Committee’s application for repairs to the surface of play- 1 ground. The architect reported that the portion from which buildings were removed ■would be asphalted as part of the work now in hand. Patching and top-dressing the remainder of the ground would cost about £45, and the committee should contribute one-third of the cost of same. — Granted on the usual conditions. Tlie architect recommended that the Hall Committee at Luggato bo asked if it would take over the improvements made by the board to the hall in lieu of the rent for the period the building had been used for school purposes. Improvements were valued at £l6, and rent for the period would amount to about an equal sum. —Adopted, 'The Matakanui School Committee asked for half-cost of repairs to fences and fixing wire netting on school windows, at a cost of £6 10s. —The request was granted. The following school lesidcnces were let for the school holidays under the usual conditions: —Brighton, for six weeks; Sutton, two weeks; Kakanui, for part of January. The following subsidies were granted under the usual conditions: —Caversham— top-dressing school asphalt, estimated total cost £23 10s; Arthur Street —top-dressing school asphalt, £23 10s; Maori Hill —topdressing, £22 10s; Greenfield —asphalting at school, £2l; Palmerston —improvements to school grounds, board’s share. £9O.
