SOLDIERS’ REPATRIATION.

EXCELLENT DEPARTMENTAL RECORD. SOME INTERESTING FIGURES (From Ode Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, December 9. In view of the closing down of the Repatriation Department in terms of section 25 of the Finance Act. some very interesting statistics are made public by the Hon. Mr Guthrie (chairman of the board). The figures are up to November 30 last. It appears that a total of £2,76,367 was spent on discharged soldiers. Gi this amount, £1,960,548 was by wav of loan. By way of repayments £1,478.050 has been collected from the soldiers. Over 75 per cent, of the money loaned has been repaid. Employment was found for 28,736 discharged soldiers. Sixteen pence was the average cost per demobilised soldier for unemployment sustenance. The number of men trained in now trades or professions was 7553, the cost being £403,549. A total of 91 per cent, completed training and graduated into employment The average cost per finished trainee was £65. A total of 6418 loans for £1,180,548 was granted to start men in business, and 16,296 loans for £778,799 were granted to men just married to furnish homes, trade tools, etc
