PALMERSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Palmerston Borough Council met on Monday, present—Dr Howden (Alayor), Crs Barclay, Power. Black, Hopkins, Cameron, M’Gregor, Morrison, Stewart. Correspondence between the Town Clerk and the secretary of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, in regard to aid for W. F. Jeffs was read. Cr Hopkins reported on condition of invalid, and stated that the sum granted, 12s fid a week, was Rarely enough to buy medicine. He moved that the council protest, and apply for a larger grant.—Seconded by Cr M’Gregor and carried. The Valuation Department wrote stating that the borough would be re-valued in time for next year’s rates.—Cr Hopkins moved that the Town Clerk value the properties in the borough, and rate according to his valuation. —Seconded by Cr Cameron, end carried. The District Health Inspector wrote in regard to hi slast letter about the removal of refuse, and offered further suggestions. —Held over till next meeting.
The Health Department reported on inspections made since last meeting, and mentioned several defects in properties and drains. W. G. Pearson -wrote stating that the creek was blocked in a section near his property, causing a nuisance.—The Clerk reported that first the occupier, and then the owner of the section had been notified. The foreman of works reported on work done since last meeting, and stated that a pipe on the water main had burst. Cr Power, on behalf of the Works Committee, reported oh an inspection made, and suggested various works which could be held over till after the holidays. Acounts amounting to £303 7s were passed for payment. It was decided to close the borough offices from the Monday before Christmas till the Wednesday following the New Year.
