The Ripa has been delayed by heavy rain in the north. She is now expected at Dunedin on Friday to load for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Flora is duo here this morning from Gisborne and Lyttelton, and is listed to sail this evening for Napier and Gisborne, via ports. The Opihi was delayed at Wellington on Saturday owing to heavy rain. She was expected to sail last night for Dunedin, where she should arrive to-morrow morning. The vessel is listed to sail from here to-morrow evening for Nelson and New Plymouth, via ports. The Wingatui is due at Dunedin to-mor-row morning from Auckland, via ports, niter discharging part cargo she will proceed to Bluff.

The Navua is due at Dunedin to-day from Auckland and Lyttelton with general cargo and fruit. She is to sail to-morrow for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Holmdalo, which was delayed at Wellington on Saturday owing to heavy rain, was to sail last evening for Dunedin direct. She should arrive tb-morrow morning and is listed to sail to-morrew night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui Tho Federal Line steamer Cumberland, which is now discharging West of England cargo at Fort Chalmers, is to sail to-morrow evening for Wanganui roadstead to commence Homeward loading. Tho schooner Holrawood arrived at Newcastle on December 3 from Wanganui. Tho vessel soiled from Wanganui on November 16. The Union Company’s chartered steamer Trelyon loft Union Bay on Decomber 1 for San Francisco to complete loading for Auckland, Melbourne, Newcastle, and Sydney. The steamer Tremcadow is expected to reqeh Lyttelton on Saturday next with phosphates from Nauru Island. She will complete discharge at Port Chalmers. Mr A. R. Thompson, of the Union Company’s Auckland office, has been appointed branch manager for the company at New Plymouth. By delivering 1,728,074 bushels of grain to ocean vessels for export in tho apace of a single working day, the port of Montreal has created a new record, says an announcement by the Harbour Commissioners.

The local office, of the Orient Line has been advised that the new liner Orama sailed from London on November 15 on her maiden voyage to Australia. ' After discharge at Adelaide, the steamer Trevithick will proceed to Port Pirie to take in deadweight, thence Melbourne and Adelaide to load wool and general cargo for Dunkirk, Hull, and Antwerp. INCOMING SAN FRANCISCO MAIL. The Union Company has been advised by cable that the Maunganui sailed from San Francisco at 11 a.m. on Wednesday laet for Wellington and Sydney, via way ports. The vessel is due at Wellington on December 23, and leaves again the next day for Sydney. g. „ PORT HUNTER DELAYED. Messrs J. W. Swift and Co. advise that the C. and I). Line steamer Port Hunter has been delayed in working cargo at Wellington owing to heavy rain. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that the Swayne and Hoyt Line .steamer Las Vegas, which arrived at Lyttelton on Sunday from Seattle, Vancouver, and San Francisco, vih Auckland, is to sail to-morrow afternoon ftir Dunedin. She should arrive on Thursday afternoon, and after discharging a large quantity of lumber, case oil, and general cargo, will proceed to Melbourne to complete discharge. TRELEVAN LEAVES NEW YORK. Cable advice has been received that the A. and A. Line steamer Trelevan sailed from vew York on the morning of November 30 with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Wanganui, and Melbourne. The vessel is due at Auckland about January 3 and at Dunedin two weeks later. REMUERA HOMEWARD BOUND. A wireless message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company, from the captain of the Remuera states that the vessel has been favoured with fine weather since she left Wellington on December 3. The Reninera is bound to Southampton and London, via Pitcairn Island, Panama Canal, and Curacao. '♦v The Union Company’s freighter Waikawa, having discharged a large quantity of assorted freight from Pacific Coast ports, sailed yesterday afternoon for New Plymouth to complete discharge. She will afterwards go to Newcastle to load coal for a New Zealand P°ri. TAINUI’S SAILING DATE. The local agents for the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company advise that the departure of the Tainui from Wellington for Southampton and London has been further postponed until daybreak on Friday next. The vessel will proceed to England, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. AUSTRALIND FROM MONTREAL. With general merchandise from Montreal and Newport News, the steamer Australind arrived at Auckland on Saturday morning. After discharging pai't cargo at Auckland the Australind will proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Melbourne to complete discharge. She is duo here about December 22. LEITREM PROM LIVERPOOL. The Federal S.N. Company advise that the steamer Loitrem is to leave Liverpool for New Zealand ports about the third week in December. The vessel should arrive at Auckland about the end of January. WIRELESS FROM PAKIPAKI, A wireless message received by the A. and A. Line agency from the captain of the Pakipaki (formerly Trewinnard) states that the vessel will arrive at Auckland at daybreak to-day from New York and Newport News. The Pakipaki is laden with general American cargo, including case oil, for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, Sydney, and Melbourne. She should arrive here about December 27. WAIKOUAITI LEAVES SYDNEY. Advice received by the Union Company states that the Waikouaiti left Sydney at midnight on Friday with a full shipment of assorted freight for dischaifee at Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Timaru. The Waikouaiti is due here on Friday next.

tymeric leaves colon. The 0. and D. Line have been notified by cablegram that the chartered steamer Tymeric left Colon on December 3 for New Zealand, en route from New York. The vessel is now expected at Auckland on December 28 and at Dunedin about January 16. HUIA WITH EXPLOSIVES. Messrs Dalgety and Co. advise that the auxiliary schooner Huia was expected to leave the Auckland powder anchorage on Sunday with explosives for discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin She should arrive here about December IS, and after discharge will load general cargo for Auckland. RUAPEHU FROM LIVERPOOL. The steamer Ruapohu, from Liverpool, via Panama, arrived at Auckland on Sunday afternoon. The vessel brought a large nurnber of passengers for New Zealand, and cargo for discharge at Auckland, Gisborne, Wellington, Lyttelton, ana Dunedin. She is due at this port towards the end of December. KAEETU CLEARS PANAMA, The Federal S.N. Company adv’ee that tho Union Company’s new steamer Karetu, which is bringing a cargo of sait from Liverpool to their agency, arrived at Panama on November 29, and left again the following day tor Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton. NEW STEAMER STORM TO DOCK. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company’s new steamer Storm, which arrived at ton on Saturday from England, is to leave the Canterbury port to-day for Port Chalmers, where she will dock for overhaul, cleaning, and painting. When this work has been completed the Storm will take up her running in the Dunedin-Wanganui trade. She has been fixed to load at Dunedin towards the end of this week for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. PAKEHA FROM LONDON. A wireless message received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company from the captain of the Pakeha states that the vessel will arrive at Auckland at daybreak on Tuesday, December 16, from London. The Pakeha is bringing 650 third-class passengers for New Zealand, and cargo for discharge at Auckland and Dunedin. She is expected at this port towards the end of December. CARGO FROM HALIFAX. The local agency for the Canadian Government Merchant Marine advises that the Canadian Explorer in place of the Canadian Britisher is to leave Halifax on December 20 with cargo for discharge at Auckland and Australian ports. After completion of discharge in Australia the vessel will return to New Zealand to load for New York, Boston, and Halifax. BARQUE ARIEL FOR AUCKLAND. The steel barque Ariel, 885 tons, is reported to have sailed from Marseilles on September 21 with a cargo of tiles for discharge at Auckland. She is expected to reach the northern port some time in January. The Ariel was built in 1892 by A. M’Hillan and Son, at Dumbarton. Her principal dimensions are—length 190.8 it, breadth 34.1 it, depth 18.5 ft. NOTICES TO MARINERS. Notices to mariners appear in this week’s Gazette in connection with a signal staff installed at Kaipara Head: Shoals to the northward and north-westward of Jackson’s Head at the entrance to Queen Charlotte Sound; the discontinuance of a fixed white light on Gaol Hill, Hokitika River; and regarding the moorings of the bucket dredges operating in Mitchell’s Reach, Wanganui River. CARGO FROM MONTREAL. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Trekieve, which left Montreal on November 26 for New Zealand, has cargo on board for the following ports:—Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, Sydney, and Melbourne. She is expected at Auckland, her first port, about -January 5. SWAYNE AND HOYT LINE. With cargo irom Pacific Slope, the Swayne and Hoyt steamer West Calera is to take her final departure from San Francisco for Auckland on December 31. She will later visit Lyttelton, uunedin, and Australia. The West Calera has not previously visited New Zealand. This vessel will be followed by the West Cahokia, which is to take her departure from San Francisco on January 28. She is due at Auckland about February 23, and will complete discharge at Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. - WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. MANUKA FOR INTERCOLONIAL TRADE. The Union liner Manuka left Wellington on Friday for Melbourne. She is to leave Melbourne on December 13 for Bluff, where she is duo on December 17, and then proceeds to Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington, thence Melbourne. The vessel is duo here on December 18. Captain Bold is in command of the Manuka, and has the following officers associated with him;—Mr H. Burt, chief engineer; Mr P. Morris, second; Mr P. Palmer, third; Mr J. I. Williams, fourth; Mr H. Larsen, fifth; Mr J. L. M’Bride, sixth; Mr C. Hood, seventh; Mr L. G. Scott; purser; Mr S. K. Duncan, assistant; Mr O. A. Sutherland, wireless operator; Mr H. Eldred, chief steward.

MOTOR SHIP'S FOE PACIFIC TRADE. About two years ago the steamers West Mahwah, West Camargo, West Holbrook, .and Las Vegas were trading at monthly intervals from Pacific Coast ports to Now Zealand on behalf of the General Steamship Corporation, San Francisco. Later the corporation handed all four vessels back to the United States Shipping Board and commenced operating motor ships. The latter, however, called at Australian ports only. A cablegram received in Auckland states that the corporation has recommenced running vessels to New Zealand, and that the motor, ship Aspen sailied from Los Angeles on November 27 for Auckland, where she will discharge lumber, case oil, and general cargo. She is expected to arrive at the northern port about December 20.

CANTERBURY COMPANY’S LATEST. The Canterbury Steam Ship Company’s new steamer River Wear, which will bo rechristened the Storm, arrived at Lyttelton on Saturday from Goole, England, a day earlier than expected. The vessel made the trip from Goole, near Hull, England, via the Azores and Panama Canal. The vessel was formerly employed in the colliery trade on the English coast. She was built by J. S. White (Ltd.), Cowes, in 1920, and her principal dimensions are:—Length 180.6 ft, breadth 29.4 ft, depth 11.5 ft. She was engined by the same company with triple expansion engines. Her machinery is situated aft, and in appearance she is similar to the Holmdale and John, only longer than the latter. She has two large hatches, and it is anticipated that when she is fitted with extra winches, and double gear and other improvements are carried out, she will be a first-class carrier for the New Zealand coastal trade. Her net tonnage is S7l tons, and her gross tonnage 749 tons. The vessel can carry about 930 tons of cargo, and can obtain a speed of 10J knots per hour.

The Storm made her departure from Goole on October 9, and called at the Azores and Panama for water and provisions. The trip to Lyttelton was uneventful and good weather was experienced all the way except for a few days in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Sufficient bunkers was taken on at Goole to last out the voyage, and there is still a considerable quantity remaining after the trip. Captain O. Nicholas, who is in command, is on his first visit to the dominion. Ho has' associated with him Mr A. B. Cawthorn as chief officer. Mr David Kerr, of Lyttelton, the company’s superintending engineer, who went Home to watch the company’s interest, came out as chief engineer, Mr W. Angus being second, and Mr S. Bradley third.
