A rather interesting letter, in which th* writer, a master at the Thames Hi« School, asked the Auckland branch of tfo Returned Soldiers’ Association to assist bin in getting similar treatment as that aO corded other masters, was read at ih< meeting of the association last week. Til writer stated that when war broke ou he was a master at the Wellington 061 lege, and, with the consent of the master he enlisted. The chairman of the hoar* of governors did not wish him to go, hold ing that i! would take some time to fil the position at the college, and intimate* that if the teacher went away the positim could not be kept open. The _ teacher however, went away with the Main Body was invalided home, but after being bad two months left again for the front, am was eventually demolibised in 1919. Hi then received a temporary appointman with the colonial service at Fiji, an* learned that all other masters of the Wei lington College, who had gone on actiji service subsequent to his enlistment; fas* received half-pay all the time. Ho th® wrote to the beard of governors, who «1« cided to place him on the same foothtj as the other masters. However, the gran was not sanctioned by the Education D* partment, which is necessary before i grant can be made absolute, the depart ment holding that the master in questia resigned before going on service. “Wit the board willing to pay, though the siflJ important to me is insignificant to tbt Government, I think the action is mew on the part of the department,” conclude the writer.
