CLASSICISTS DUPED
TIMELY DISCOVERY OF FRAUD,
Press Association— By Tolograph—Copyright. LONDON, September 19. The Morning Post’s Strasburg correspondent mentions an amazing victimisation of Prussian Classicists. The Prussian National Library purchased a parchment which was alleged to be an unknown work by Plautus. German professors learnedly commented on it, but the French Paleographer Chatelain expressed doubts as to its authenticity, whereupon an analysis was made of the ink, which revealed traces of aniline dye of recent origin. This was discovered just in time to prevent a further purchase of what was alleged to be Livy’s “Servius.” —A. and N.Z. Cable.
