COASTAL DEFENCE.
AVIATION BASE AT AUCKLAND. (Per United Press Assoctation.) AUCKLAND, September 7. An aviation base as part of the dominion’s future defence policy is to be established at Auckland. The Prime Minister states that the Government has decided to purchase the aviation plant of Walsh brothers at Kohinamarama and place it at the disposal of the Defence Department' as an auxiliary branch of the coastal defence. The plant will be taken over at valuation, the cost probably being about £12,000. The land is not included in the purchase. Mr Massey states that it is the intention of the Government to go on with the development of an aviation base at Auckland, and for this purpose additional aircraft and plant will be obtained.
