A SUCCESSFUL OPENING. The grand carnival and bazaar in aid ai the DeiUi Valley Bowling and Croquet Club, winch is to run till Tuesday next, was opened in the George Street School Hall lust evening. The weather conditions were not such that would tempt people out, but nevertheless there was an excellent attendance, which augurs well for the remaining three nights. The carnival was opened by the Mayor (Mi - H. L. Tapley), who stated that the function was being held to assist in raising the £SOO to be paid to the City Corporation by March of next year in order to facilitate the formation of the bowling green. It was a worthy object, and he wished the conveners ©very success, and trusted that the attendances would bo doubled for the remaining nights. The hall was tastefully decorated in gold and- orange streamers, while the various stalls, gaily decked with greenery, lent a pleasing effect to the surroundings. The visitors present were not loth to make purchases, with the result that most of the stalls will require replenishing.
