The engagement is announced of Miss Hazel O. Davies, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. T. Davies, Highland Park, Wellington, to Mr Fred E. Asboe (late Royal Flying Corps), fourth son of the Rev. A. and the late Mrs Asboe, Belfast, Ireland.

Several families are spending the school vacations at the popular seaside resorts around Dunedin. ‘ W ith weather such as wo are experiencing they have been having a very enjoyable time.

The musical hour at the Otago Women’s Club on Wednesday afternoon was largely attended. Numerous songs were rendered by Miss Irene Hey wood, and duets were played by Mrs Mason and Miss Martin.

Mr aud Mrs Charles Findlay, of Taieri, gave a delightful picnic at “Rannock,” Salisbury. Present wore Mesdames Shand, MTutyro, Pugh, and James Findlay, Misses B. Findlay, D. Eight (Christchurch), Easton, Porteous, Pugh (2), and MTntyre, Messrs J. Findlay, Henderson, and MTntyre.

A pleasant little function took place at the Otago Women’s Club yesterday, when a deputation from the members mot Miss Nicolson, the secretary, at morning tea. Mrs Vivian, on behalf of the members, expressed to her their warm appreciation of her long and faithul services, her untiring energy, and her unfailing courtesy, and asked her acceptance of a handbag containing a roll of notes as a token of their esteem.

On Wednesday Mrs Denton Leech entertained some of the delegates of the National Council of Women at lunch at her residence, St. David street. The table was decorated with bowls of primroses and pink camellias, and looked exceedingly charming. The guests were Lady Luke (Wellington), Sister Hannah, Mesdames M’Farlane, Cadoux, and Bulte, and Miss Kane. After lunch the visitors were conducted over the University by the Chancellor, Dr Cameron, and were much impressed with the grounds and rooms that they saw.

The last two meetings or the Aorangi Musical Club have been most enjoyable. The July meeting, for which Miss Justice, of Tennyson street, was hostess, was spent in the study of “Absolute and Programme Music,” works to illustrate these forms being performed by various pianists, while singers and instrumentalists contributed concerted items. Miss' Sinclair was the essayist. The August meeting was held at the residence of Miss M’Gibbon, Clyde street. “Modern English Music” was the subject chosen, and all enjoyed listening to tho compositions of some of the best known of our present-day English composers. Miss Logie gave an interesting sketch on the„ lives of some of the most prominent. The following members performed :—Mrs Moore, Misses Sinclair, E. Morrison, Young, Rawlinson, Justice, M’Dougall, E. Young, M’Gibbon, Scoullar, and Stenhouse (songs). Misses White and Frazer (piano solos), Mrs Sundstrum. and Miss Shnw (violin solos).

Last evening the delegates of the National Council of New Zealand Women ■were entertained at a reception at the Otago W omen’s Club. The conference colour scheme of purple and gold was carried out in beautiful spring flowers, and tho rooms looked very inviting, Airs J. Hutchison, senior vice-president of the Otago Women’s Club, welcomed the visitors, and in a charming little speech expressed he r pleasure at being able to do so. Miss Kane, dominion president, suitably replied on behalf of the National Council _of Women. While the guests were arriving musical selections were played by an orchestra’ organised by Mrs H. de C. M‘Arthur, and later a small programme was given, items being songs by Mrs Wilson and Miss Theomin and a playetto by Mrs A. Gard’ncr and Miss Aslin. The evening was a very pleasant one. The visitors one and all expressed their delight in Dunedin and its people, and agreed that tho conference from every viewpoint had been a great success.

A dance was held at “Avalon,” the residence of Mrs J. C. M’George, on Wednesday evening to celebrate the coming of ago of her third sou, Mr C. 11, D. M’George. The ballroom was decorated with the bluebird and lucky horseshoe and the supper room with spring flowers. Some 40 young guests spent a most enjoyable time, healths being sung with musical honours. On such a beautiful night the garden walks were in great request between the dances. Wireless items from 4YA wore greatly enjoyed during the evening. Among those present were Mrs J. C.
