KENT DEFEATS SOUTH AFRICANS. Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Aunst 25. Kent, in their first innings, declared with six wickets down for 418 (Knott 63). Elanckenberg took three wickets for 82, The South Africans, in their first innings, made 135 (Deane 43). Wright took live wickets for 35. Folowing on the visitors made 194 (Elanckenberg 51). Freeman took six wickets for 68. Kent won by an innings and 89 runs.— Reuter. On the opening day, Kent had made 585 for five wickets (Woolley 176 and Harding 118). FREEMAN’S FINE AVERAGE. LONDON, August 26. (Received August 26, at 5.5 p.m.) The pitch at Canterbury was fast ar\d hard despite light rain on Sunday. Knott batted for 100 minutes. Wright’s fast mediums defeated Taylor, Catterall and Nil pen, and Freeman's tricky deliveries were most damaging in the second innings. After tho second wicket had added 63 runs f reeman took six for 12. Blanckonberg and Pegler then stopped the rot, adding 67 in half an hour.—A. and JN.Z. Cable.
